Foreign Missions
We actively participate in the ministry of World Wide Outreach of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. This includes the work of the Committee on Foreign Missions. Through this participation, we help to support over a dozen missionary families laboring in Uganda, Eritrea, Haiti, Suriname, Canada, Asia, and Japan. Our presbytery has a special partnership in supporting the labors of David Okken in Uganda.
In the Summer of 2005, we sent a team of 15 of our church members to Belize. While there, they helped to build a fence around the property of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Santa Elaina, for the church to qualify for a permit to open a Christian school. In addition, they organized and ran a Vacation Bible School for the local children, organized the church library, helped children with their reading skills, and painted a mural in one of the classrooms.
In addition to our regular support to our foreign missionaries, we have participated in a number of special need situations including helping to provide relief to Hurricane Katrina victims through Christ the King Presbyterian Church (our sister church in Longview, Texas), and donating to the Missionary Widows’ Fund which was established to support the Baugh Family, after the death of Matt Baugh in Haiti in 2006.
Home Missions
We participate in the work of church planting in the United States through the OPC Home Missions Committee. In addition, we help to support our Presbytery’s regional church planting efforts. Over a period of five years we labored to plant a church in nearby Plainview, Texas. However, in God’s providence, the Covenant of Grace chapel in Plainview was closed in March, 2006. We continue to seek opportunities to plant churches in the Texas Panhandle.
